Undisputed Truth was an odd sort of band, where on this their final album with the original lineup, all of the material laid down had been previously recorded, and were chart topping hits from other artists. That being said, there are two ways to consider this the first being that the band was falling apart, had obligations, and in order to meet those obligations, laid down an album as quickly as possible. The second way of viewing this attribute is to consider that Undisputed Truth purposely intended to compile an album of material previously released, and then hit the world with their own spin of those sounds. With that in mind, consider their cover of the Temptations’ emancipated hit “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” where Undisputed Truth turn the tables and instead of covering what the Temps had had success with, they went and covered the original 3:28 minute version as the writers Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong had intended it to be played.

Yet again, the story only broadens from there, where the group lays out cover versions of the Dave Mason track “Feelin’ Alright,” along with the Lennon & McCartney number “With A Little Help From My Friends,” then heading off with Al Green material before finishing up with their own take on the Burt Bacharach song “Walk On By,” made famous by Dionne Warwick.
